For 16 years the Paul Daniels Magic Show ruled the Saturday night ratings. His Christmas Specials were a 'must see' for families nationwide, so much so that they were the first to knock the much loved Morecambe and Wise shows into second place.

After a gap of 17 years the BBC finally won the International Golden Rose of Montreaux television competition by entering one of Paul's shows and it was an outright winner.
